IDG Lands CMP's Friedenberg To Boost Its CXO Media Subsidiary

In the time-honored tradition of strengthening one's own hand while weakening the competitions', International Data Group last week raided CMP Media's young executive ranks to head one of its fast-growing units. The prize: 91/2-year CMP veteran Michael Friedenberg, who next Monday (July 25) starts as president/CEO of executive info provider CXO Media. As such, Friedenberg--who made his mark at CMP as publisher of InformationWeek and only two months ago was promoted to senior VP/strategic customer development--gets oversight of CXO's CIO, CSO and CMO brands, each of which has print, Web and events components (and which combined for four Neal Awards at American Business Media's editorial derby in March). "I loved it at CMP," a vacationing Friedenberg told us, "but this post allows me to run my own team and manage my own brands." Because CXO already is dong pretty well, he said, his first job will be to listen to customers to see how it can do more. Friedenberg plans to commute to CXO's Framingham, MA, office from his suburban Philadelphia home.
