Total 3Q 05 Mobile Phone Shipments Grew 19.1% - IDC

Total worldwide shipments of mobile phones in third quarter 2005 were 208.3 million, up 19.1% on third quarter 2004, when shipments totalled 174.9 million, according to market intelligence company IDC. IDC said number one mobile phone ranking vendor Nokia made 66.6 million shipments in third quarter 2005, a rise of 29.6% on the year-earlier. The company's market share was 32.0%. Nokia made 51.4 million shipments in the year-earlier period, when it had a market share of 29.4%. "As vendors announced new products earlier this year and accelerated their time to market, we've already reached this milestone," said Ramon Llamas, research analyst for IDC's Mobile Devices team.
