Soul of this new machine is its robotic flexibility
Science was imitating art yesterday in Cambridge when a robot was unveiled that has a striking resemblance to the chirping, wheeling R2-D2 in the "Star Wars" flicks. Want a mobile mechanical companion to monitor the kids with a Webcam, detect fires via smoke detectors, answer phone calls, play DVDs, patrol the house for intruders, hook up to the Internet and even play video games with? The 914 PC-Bot is for you. "When you buy it, it's your dream," said Tom Burick, creator of the robotic handything via his Pittsburgh-based company, White Box Robotics. White Box officially began taking orders yesterday for fall deliveries, at a starting price of about $1,200, Burick said at the RoboBusiness Conference at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge.
