The View from the Top; Hearst, IDG and Reed publishers weigh in with their perspective on digital strategies
Major magazine publishers see more growth for digital editions in 2006, as they roll out new titles and work to expand their circulation. But they also worry that digital editions will face some huge competitive challenges, particularly from the rapidly growing Internet sector. That at least was the message from top executives at three large U.S. magazine publishers who gave keynote addresses at the opening panel, "The View From The Top" at the recent 2005 Digital Magazine Forum in New York City. Bob Carrrigan, president of the International Data Group (IDG), cautioned that digital editions faced serious competition from the Internet and web products as they try to attract both readers and advertisers.
